Shoppers can help feed Hawai'i's hungry this holiday season through the Hawaii Foodbank's "Check Out Hunger" program. Now in its 15th year, the program will be available in supermarkets across the state Wednesday through Jan. 13.

As in years past, Kraft Foods in Hawai'i will jump-start the program with a $5,000 donation to the Hawaii Foodbank.

To make a donation during this year's campaign, shoppers should look for the bright green Check Out Hunger tear-off coupons at participating grocery stores. They can opt to tear off either a $2.81 coupon that feeds a child breakfast for a week, a $12.43 coupon that feeds a senior lunch for a month or a $16.84 coupon to feed a family for a week, and hand it to the cashier to scan.

The amount of the coupon, which becomes a donation to the Hawaii Foodbank, will be added to the grocery bill.

Participating stores include Times Supermarkets on O'ahu; Safeway stores statewide; Tamura's Market at Wahiawa and Hau'ula; Tamura Supermarket in Wai'anae; Tamura's Fine Wine & Liquors on O'ahu; Kokua Market Natural Foods Co-op on O'ahu; and KTA Super Stores on the Big Island.
