After 1-2 start, Rainbow Wahine volleyball team moves up in poll

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 11 in this week's AVCA poll, released today.

The Rainbow Wahine went 1-2 over the weekend in their Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic, losing to UCLA and defending national champion Penn State. Penn State (3-0) won the tournament and remained at No. 1.

UCLA (2-1) remained at No. 6 in the poll and Ohio, which went 0-3 in the tournament, received seven votes in the poll.

Western Athletic Conference member New Mexico State went 1-2 at the Illinois Tournament and fell out of the poll from No. 23.

Hawai'i hosts The Honolulu Advertiser Volleyball Challenge, which starts on Thursday. In the tournament are No. 12 Minnesota (3-0), Wyoming (0-3) and Cincinnati (3-0). Cincinnati is coached by Hilo High alum Reed Sunahara.
