A woman who was in the process of moving out of her Lana'i City home apparently was shot to death by her estranged husband yesterday, who then killed himself, Maui police said.

Just before the sound of gunshots, a witness told police that Kim Batoon was heard yelling for someone to call police.

Lana'i police and emergency personnel arrived at 441 'Iliahi St. around 12:34 p.m. and found the bodies of Jerry Batoon, 41, and his estranged wife, Kim, 31. Their bodies were near the front entrance of the residence.

A .22-caliber rifle was found at the scene, police said.
