Pearl City Library holding youth card sign-up

Advertiser Staff

Pearl City Public Library is holding a youth library card sign-up drive throughout this month

.

Library card sign-up month is a time to remind parents and children that a library card is the most important school supply of all, library officials said. Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children.

Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifelong learning, officials said.

Children and teens who sign up for a library card will receive a goody bag filled with reading incentives from library staff members. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must present valid identification, such as a Hawaii State I.D. card or a Hawaii State Driver's License.

Pearl City Public Library is located at 1138 Waimano Home Road, next to the Pearl City Police Station. For more information, call the library during normal working hours at 453-6566.
