NFL: CBS sues players association over fantasy league royalties

By Jef Feeley
Bloomberg News

A CBS Corp. unit sued the National Football League Players Association over the group's demand that it receive licensing fees for the use of players' names and statistics in fantasy football leagues.

CBS Interactive, which offers fantasy sports leagues on its Web site, asked a federal judge in Minnesota yesterday to find that the association is violating antitrust laws by seeking royalties for the use of publicly available player statistics. CBS is the owner of the second most-watched U.S. television network and offers other services through its Internet units.

The case is CBS Interactive Inc. v. National Football League Players Association, 08-cv-05097, U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota (Minneapolis).
