Man, 19, indicted in home invasion

Advertiser Staff

Kevin Khamsouk, 19, has been indicted on 12 criminal charges related to an Aug. 11 Aliamanu home invasion in which a 19-year-old man was shot and critically wounded.

Khamsouk, also known as "Rambo," was charged yesterday by the O'ahu grand jury with two counts of first-degree robbery, three of kidnapping, one count of burglary and six counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Khamsouk was allegedly in a group of five who broke into a Hulaku'i Drive home and held three people, including two women, at gunpoint.

Timothy Lapitan, one of the residents, was shot in the abdomen when he tried to push one of the intruders out of the house, according to police records.

Lapitan has been left paralyzed by the gunshot, police said.

All the intruders wore dark clothing and masks or bandannas when the home invasion occurred, according to court records.

Police said three of the suspects are juveniles and subject to confidential criminal proceedings in Family Court.

Police declined to say if the incident was gang-related.

Khamsouk is being held on $250,000 bail.

All the charges except the burglary count filed against Khamsouk are Class A felonies punishable by 20 years in prison.

The indictment says the prosecutor's office may seek extended sentencing of Khamsouk, given the seriousness of the offenses.
