Woman's injuries spur police probe

Police yesterday opened an attempted-murder investigation into critical head injuries suffered by an 'Ewa Beach woman.

The 36-year-old woman's husband told police he found his injured wife after returning home from work at 3:50 a.m. yesterday. The man, also 36, was questioned by police, who found an undisclosed weapon in the home, according to Honolulu Police Department spokesman Maj. Alan Bluemke.

Police have made no arrests.



NO ARRESTS YET IN WAIPAHU SHOOTING

Police have made no arrests in Tuesday night's armed robbery and shooting at a Village Park residence in Waipahu.

A masked gunman confronted a 37-year-old man in the garage of his residence at 94-1027 Hapapa Street at about 9:30 p.m. During a struggle with the suspect, the resident was shot in the hand and leg. He is listed in stable condition at The Queen's Medical Center, police said.

Witnesses saw three men fleeing the scene.

The case has been reclassified from an attempted murder to first-degree robbery, police said.



MAN'S DROWNING RULED ACCIDENTAL

A Nanakuli man whose body was recovered Tuesday in waters 10 miles south of Barbers Point died of asphyxia due to drowning, an autopsy determined yesterday.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office listed the manner of death for Pele H. Kaio II as accidental.

Kaio was last seen Sunday at 6:30 p.m. swimming in an area called "Black Rock" in Nanakuli.



ASSAULT VICTIM IN CRITICAL CONDITION

A 22-year-old Princeville man assaulted Aug. 21 at 'Anini Beach Park was in critical condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center, Kaua'i police said.

Christopher Owens was assaulted near the campgrounds at about 9:45 p.m., police said. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment and later medevaced to Queen's.

SUSPECT ALLEGEDLY TRIED TO ROB 2 BOYS

Multiple charges are pending against a 23-year-old man arrested Tuesday in Kaimuki on suspicion of robbing two boys and of using pepper spray on the older brother of one of the boys.

Police are currently holding the suspect on an outstanding $150 warrant, pending charges for two counts of second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. The suspect, who listed no permanent local address at booking, was arrested at 3221 Wai'alae Ave. at 3:30 p.m.

According to police, the man allegedly confronted two boys, ages 12 and 13, and put his arm around one of them. He allegedly searched the backpacks of both boys. One of the victims managed to call his older brother on a cell phone.

The brother confronted the suspect and fought him. During the fight, the suspect allegedly pepper-sprayed him, police said.
