NFL: Ex-Warrior Ulbrich wins back starting job with 49ers

Advertiser Staff

Former University of Hawaii linebacker Jeff Ulbrich apparently has won back a starting job with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ulbrich beat out Takeo Spikes and Dontarrious Thomas (since released) for the inside linebacker spot next to all-pro Patrick Willis.

"What 'Brick has done since I've been here, I not only see a good football player, but an outstanding special teams player, and most importantly, he is a team player in every aspect," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said on 49ers.com.

"You guys remember the story when we demoted him. He came right into my office and said, 'I want to be on all the special teams.' Not in a bad way, in a very positive way. That's 'Brick. He is just a – you just want him on your team. The day comes when he can't play anymore, whenever that is down the road, that'll be a tough day because that guy gives the team his heart and soul every time."

The 49ers open their season at home against Arizona Sunday.
