Gov. Linda Lingle has released $1,560,000 in additional construction funds to dredge the inner harbor basin area of Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor on Kaua'i.

Dredging of the federal portion of the small boat harbor, including the entrance channel, is also being performed as part of this project, according to a news release from the governor's office.

The state has partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to undertake several improvements at Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor, the news release said. In addition to dredging work, the upgrades include the construction of a higher breakwater to provide greater protection for the inner harbor and other navigational enhancements.

The total project cost is estimated to be $28,148,399, which includes $5,960,000 in state funds and $22,188,339 in federal funds.

Dredging is scheduled to begin in early 2009. All project work, including the construction of the new breakwater, is scheduled to be completed by July 2009.
