A underground main broke around 2:30 p.m. today, sending water across six lanes of Kapi'olani Boulevard, just diamondhead of Ward Avenue, and snarling traffic.

The Board of Water Supply said the 12-inch main that broke was scheduled to be replaced soon as part of the Kapi'olani Water-Sewer Project.

Those driving Waikiki-bound are being asked to avoid the area.
