Surf: Big south swell should last into Sunday

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory will remain in effect for the south-facing shores of all islands through Sunday, the National Weather Service said.

A large south swell is expected to continue through today before diminishing later tonight and tomorrow, forecasters said.

Surf along south-facing shores will be 6 to 10 feet today, declining to 5 to 8 feet later tonight and Sunday.

Elsewhere on O'ahu, look for surf of 3 to 6 feet today along west-facing shores, 1 to 3 feet along north-facing shores and 2 to 4 feet along east-facing shores.

Outlook through Thursday, Sept 11: The south swell will be winding down over the weekend with the surf likely dropping below advisory level by Sunday afternoon. A small north-northwest swell is still on tap for Monday. A southeast swell will be kicking in Sunday night and persist through the rest of the forecast period. Surf will be approaching advisory level of 8 feet Monday and Tuesday for the south-facing shores.
