Live-fire exercise planned at Kekaha range on Kauai

Advertiser Staff

KEKAHA, KAUA'I — Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement officers will be conducting live-fire range exercises from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 10-14 at the Hawai'i Army National Guard Firing Range in Kekaha, Kaua'i.

"The exercises are conducted as part of our normal enforcement staff training," said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairperson.

The public is asked to refrain from entering the range area during the hours of this exercise.

For safety purposes, orange cones will be posted parallel to both sides of the range and a red flag will be raised from the highest point on the range.

Although normal live-fire precautions will be followed, the public is asked to avoid the area on the exercise dates.

Kekaha firing range is located approximately one mile west of 'Akialoa and Kaumuali'i Highway, at Kekaha, west Kaua'i.

The range has been in use for more than 40 years, and is reserved for use by state law enforcement agencies and the Garden Island Pistol Club. It is maintained by the State National Guard.
