Big Island biker killed in collision with truck

Advertiser Staff

A 26-year-old Waimea man died Thursday from injuries he suffered when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway and Puako Beach Drive in South Kohala.

Warren W. Hollister was headed south on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway on a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle when a 1995 Ford Ranger pulled out of Puako Beach Drive making a left turn onto the highway shortly before 6:10 p.m., police said.

The driver of the truck, a 58-year-old Waimea man, was not injured.

Hollister was wearing a helmet. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, but police said speed played a role.

Police have opened a negligent homicide investigation and ordered an autopsy.

Hollister's death was the 19th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with 26 at this time last year.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call Officer Joshua Lewis at 808-326-4646, ext. 233.
