Crew repairing water main at Ala Wai harbor

Advertiser Staff

A construction crew is repairing a broken water main this morning in the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor in the parking lot area near the Hilton Lagoon.

The break occurred around 5 a.m. and as a precaution people were kept out of the ocean in the area until it was determined if it was a water main or sewage line.

"We took some water samples just to make sure it wasn't sewage and it's not," said Watson Okubo, assistant chief of the state Department of Health's Clean Water Branch.

The main is owned by the state and not the Board of Water Supply, Okubo said.
