Honolulu Liquor Commission fines restaurants for violations

The Honolulu Liquor Commission last week fined Monterey Bay Canners and Tony Roma's Famous for Ribs for selling liquor to minors.

Monterey Bay Canners pleaded no contest and was fined $1,000 but the commission suspended $250 of the fine provided that the licensee has no similar violations within the next year.

Tony Roma's Famous for Ribs pleaded no contest and was fined $1,000 for providing liquor to minors.

The commission also fined Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for interfering with liquor commission investigations by announcing the arrival of commission investigators, a spokesman said.

Ruth's Chris Steak House pleaded no contest and was fined $1,000 for violation of a rule that prohibits obstructing, hampering or interfering with investigations or Liquor Commission operations.The steak house also was fined $250 for an employee registration violation.

At the meeting Thursday, the commission took these actions relating to O'ahu businesses:

  • Formaggio Grill (no contest) and J.W. Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa (no contest) each were fined $250 for an employee registration violation.

  • Club Moon Flower (no contest) was fined $350 failing to have a duly registered manager or assistant manager in active charge of the licensed premises.

  • Fred Sundries (no contest), Checkout Convenience (no contest) and City Pharmacy (no contest) each were fined $350 for failing to have a duly registered manager or assistant manager in active charge of the licensed premises.

  • Pearl City Club House ( Silk Lady Lounge) pleaded no contest and was fined $300 for employee consumption of liquor while on duty) and fined $250 for violation of using a trade name identifying the establishment on a sign posted outside as "Silk Lady Lounge," without prior Commission approval.

  • Club Komo Mai presented its case and closing arguments were heard regarding the case of violations for selling liquor to minors. The commission will conduct decision making on Thursday.
