A Big Island man who died Tuesday in a fiery single-vehicle crash in Laupahoehoe was identified today as Reid K. Barton, 31.

Barton was driving a station wagon south on Liloa Road when the car ran off the left side of the road. The vehicle burst into flames, trapping Barton inside. Firefighters were called at 11:46 a.m. and extinguished the fire.

Barton died at Hilo Medical Center at 6:01 p.m.
