KANE'OHE
Fishpond preservation effort needs volunteers

Learn more about a Hawaiian fishpond while helping to preserve it from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Waikalua Loko Fishpond at the end of Kulauli Street in Kane'ohe.

Families, individuals and school and community groups are welcome. Volunteers will spend time removing mangrove and invasive limu from the fishpond.

Volunteers should come prepared with covered shoes or tabi, sunscreen, a hand saw, work gloves, water, long work pants and shirt, or surf shorts to work in the water.

Participants must register by e-mailing Ka'ohua Lucas at kaohua@hawaii.rr.com or calling her at 843-1217.
