Parker School on Big Isle warns of 'benefit' scam

Advertiser Staff

Parker School in Kamuela is the subject of an attempt to defraud local area businesses, according to school officials.

The Big Island school recently learned that someone is attempting to sell advertising space and athletic posters, claiming that the proceeds benefit Parker School, wrote Holly Weigle, school advancement associate.

The caller claims to be a representative of Parker and has been linked to an operation called Commercial Newspaper Service, Weigle said in an e-mail.

"Parker School does not condone this activity, and certainly received no financial benefits from it," said Carl Sturges, headmaster of Parker School.

The school has contacted this operation to request that they stop all calls but so far, all requests have been ignored, Weigle said.

The activities have been reported to police.

Anyone contacted by the operation should call school business manager Robert McKendry at 885-6803.
