Hawaii frustrated in 3-3 tie

Advertiser Staff

Helped by a Hawai'i own goal, host New Mexico rallied for a 3-3 tie last night in a women's soccer match at Albuquerque, N.M.

Trailing 3-1, Amanda Collins sent a high shot to the center of the Hawai'i goal, which eluded the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Nicole McClure at the 77:08 mark to draw the Lobos to 3-2.

New Mexico then created a dangerous situation, pushing the ball in front of the Hawai'i goal. The attempted clear from a Hawai'i player went directly into the net with 2:22 left in regulation. Both teams went scoreless in two overtime periods.

The Rainbow Wahine led 2-1 at halftime behind goals from Kristyn Shapka (8:26) and Ambree Ako (19:44). Samantha Bevis scored at 18:41 for the Lobos.

Taryn Fukuroku's goal at 64:50 of the second half made it 3-1.

New Mexico is 2-1-2. Hawai'i is 1-2-1.
