Man critically injured in Hilo bar assault

Big Island police are seeking suspect information in an assault at a Hilo bar early today that left a 27-year-old Hilo man critically injured.

A male suspect in his 20s wearing a light-colored shirt and dark-colored shorts allegedly struck the victim in the face in the restroom of the bar between 11:55 p.m. last night and midnight. The suspect is about 5 feet 6 and weighs 185 pounds. He was last seen heading in the makai direction on Haili Street and then south-bound on Kamehameha Avenue.

The victim was initially treated at Hilo Medical Center and later transferred by air ambulance to Queen's, where police said he is in critical condition.
