UH-HILO WOMEN ROLL TO PAIR OF VICTORIES

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo women's volleyball team rolled to a pair of three-set victories yesterday on the opening day of the Montana State University-Billings Invitational in Billings, Mont.

The Vulcans (9-2) beat the University of Mary, 25-10, 25-10, 25-18 in their opener, and then dispatched Alaska Fairbanks, 25-13, 25-22, 25-23, in their second match.

"It's just nice to get those under the belt," UH-Hilo coach Bruce Atkinson said. "Considering we're tired and a little beat up, I'm very pleased with the team's progress."

Against Mary, Josimara Pinheiro led the Vulcans with 12 kills and Fabiane Seben added 10.

Against the Nanooks, Seben led the Vulcans with 14 kills, while Pinheiro added 12.

"Our timing is getting better," Atkinson said. "Our defenders are beginning to understand their roles."
