Prosecutors charged a 68-year-old Aliamanu man Friday with multiple counts of sexual assault involving a young child.

Joseph Lopez Jr. of a Likini Street address is accused of two counts each of first- and third-degree assault. Lopez was released after posting $50,000 bail. His initial appearance is scheduled Wednesday at District Court.

The alleged sex assaults involving a 4-year-old victim occurred between June 22 and July 16, police said.

Child Welfare Service notified police of the case on Aug. 19. Forensic interview of the victim confirmed multiple offenses, according to police.
