Reckless Waikiki driver facing charges

Advertiser Staff

Charges are pending against a Iroquois Point man who allegedly damaged a police vehicle and drove in the wrong direction on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki to Ena road following an early-morning traffic stop at the Honolulu Zoo parking lot.

The man, who claims to have ran to Ke'ehi Lagoon Park from Ena Road, surrendered to police at the main station at 8:47 a.m. He was booked on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree property damage but will likely be charged with reckless driving.

The man allegedly was pulled over for a traffic violation at the zoo parking lot. He allegedly refused an order to get out of his vehicle. Instead, police said he started the vehicle, reversed into an officer's car and drove down Kalakaua Avenue in the 'ewa direction. He abandoned the vehicle on Ena Road near the Hawaii Prince Hotel.
