Former University of Hawai'i All-American volleyball player Kim Willoughby will be arraigned today at Circuit Court on a first-degree assault charge.

The arraignment will be before Circuit Judge Derrick Chan. Prosecutors yesterday declined comment on the case.

It is unknown if her arraignment today is related to a $20,000 arrest warrant issued in June 2007 by Chan stemming from prosecutor's charges filed by felony information documents.

Willoughby was a member of the United States' silver-medal volleyball team at the recent Beijing Olympics.

KIM STABLE AFTER BYPASS SURGERY

Big Island Mayor Harry Kim is recovering from heart bypass surgery at The Queen's Medical Center.

There were no complications after yesterday's successful three-hour operation.

A Queen's spokesman said the 69-year-old was in stable condition and will be in the intensive care unit for several days.

Kim suffered a heart attack Thursday while working at Hawai'i County's Civil Defense headquarters in Hilo. He was flown to Queen's later that night.

Kim has suffered two other heart attacks, most recently last month.

Term limits prevent Kim from running for re-election this year, and he steps down as mayor in December.

SHARK SPOTTED OFF WAIMANALO

Lifeguards posted shark warning signs at Waimanalo Beach Park yesterday after a lifeguard spotted a shark in the area.

EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic said that a beachgoer told a lifeguard that a shark was in the area at about 2:30 p.m. The lifeguard investigated, saw the shark and the signs were posted. Swimmers were warned not to go into the water at Waimanalo.

It was not known what type of shark it was or how large it was.

Cheplic said there were numerous other shark sightings reported around O'ahu yesterday, but the Waimanalo sighting was the only one that was confirmed.

The situation will be reassessed this morning, Cheplic said.
