Ala Wai harbor parking meeting scheduled

Advertiser Staff

The second of two meetings to form a community ad hoc committee to advise the state on development of a parking plan for the Ala Wai small boat harbor will be held next Wednesday at the Jefferson Elementary School cafeteria.

The meeting is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The school is located at 324 Kapahulu Ave. in Waikiki.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources' Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation granted permission in August to issue a revocable, 12-month permit to allow a parking vendor to manage the Ala Wai small boat harbor parking areas. The ad hoc committee is being formed to provide community feedback for the parking plan.

"We hope the end result of all this consultation is a parking plan for Ala Wai that is fair for its users, and still generates income to help the facility become self-supporting," said said Laura H. Thielen, Land Board chairperson.
