Mother Marianne, Sisters of St. Francis to be honored at musical benefit

"An Evening of Aloha: Na Wahine Kupa'a — Women of Strength," a musical benefit to honor Mother Marianne Cope and the Sisters of St. Francis, will be 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Hawai'i Convention Center.

Bernadette Baraquio will serve as emcee, with performances of chants, hula, songs and a reading from The Blessed Marianne's memoirs.

Na Leo Pilimehana, Melveen Leed, Pomai Keawe Lyman, Haunani Apoliona and Karen Keawehawaii will provide music, and Ka Pa Hula O Ka Lei Lehua under the direction of kumu hula Snowbird Bento will perform a hula kahiko; Marcelo Pacleb's 24-7 Danceforce will do a contemporary dance presentation, and artist Peggy Chun will be featured in a video.
