Man charged with damaging Waianae fast-food restaurant

An 18-year-old man was charged today with allegedly causing $7,900 damage to a fast-food restaurant on the Wai'anae coast.

Thomas Matias Jr. was charged by information with second- and fourth-degree criminal property damage. Bail is $11,000.

Matias, who listed no permant local address, allegedly used a baseball bat to damage the restaurant's window, menu board and closed-circuit television menu confirmation screen at about 1:15 a.m. yesterday. Matias' rampage occurred after he walked up and tried to order food at the drive-through window and was denied service.

Police arrested Matias, who was identified by video surveillance, at 2:15 a.m. yesterday at Farrington Highway and Ho'okele Street in Ma'ili, about three miles from the restaurant.
