WAI'ANAE
Fast-food restaurant smashed up with bat

An 18-year-old man was charged yesterday with allegedly causing $7,900 damage to a fast-food restaurant on the Wai'anae Coast.

Thomas Matias Jr. was charged by information with second- and fourth-degree criminal property damage, with bail set at $11,000.

Matias, who listed no permanent local address, allegedly used a baseball bat to damage the restaurant's window, menu board and closed-circuit television menu confirmation screen at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday. The rampage allegedly occurred after he walked up and tried to order food at the drive-through window and was denied service.
