OL Naeole re-signed by Jaguars

Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars, still trying to tweak their injury-riddled offensive line, re-signed veteran guard Chris Naeole yesterday.

Naeole, a former standout at Kahuku High School and Colorado, spent the past six seasons in Jacksonville but was released in March, four months after he ruptured his quadriceps tendon and missed the final eight games.

Naeole, a first-round draft pick in 1997 by New Orleans, could be back in the starting lineup when the Jaguars (0-2) play at Indianapolis on Sunday. Jacksonville needs a victory to avoid an 0-3 start that would hinder its chances of supplanting the Colts atop the AFC South.

The Jaguars also signed receiver D'Juan Woods and linebacker Lamar Myles to the practice squad and released offensive tackle Andrew Carnahan.

FREROTTE TO START AT QB

With the passing offense sputtering in two losses to open the season, Minnesota coach Brad Childress decided the Vikings can no longer afford to let 25-year-old quarterback Tarvaris Jackson learn on the job.

Yesterday, Childress turned to 15-year veteran Gus Frerotte to run the offense for the rest of the season.

"I'm just not seeing right now the aggressiveness from Tarvaris that I saw throughout the offseason, training camp, the two preseason games that he played in," Childress said. "And part of it may be experience. I know Gus will give us that."

SHORT SNAPS: Tyler Thigpen, a second-year pro who set passing records as an All-American for Coastal Carolina, will start at quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday against Atlanta. ... Running back LaDainian Tomlinson (sore toe) sat out yesterday's short practice as San Diego began preparing for its home game with the New York Jets on Monday night.
