Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto on Wednesday will address schools and communities via live broadcast about newly imposed budget cuts on the state Department of Education.

The head of Hawai'i's public school system is expected to speak Wednesday at 2 p.m. on DOE Channel 56.

That day, the department is also expected to release a draft proposal of new budget cuts through its Web site, www.doe.k12.hi.us.

Hamamoto is expected to ask the public to comment on the draft proposal. Public input will be accepted through Sept. 29.

Last week, all state agencies were asked by Gov. Linda Lingle to submit budget proposals that reflect a 10 percent, 15 percent and 20 percent cut to their budgets. So far, the DOE has already cut some $20 million from its $2.34 billion budget.
