Kathleen Aoki has been named deputy director of the Maui County Department of Planning.

The University of Hawai'i graduate has been working at the department since 2002. She was a lead planner and project manager for a number of long-range projects and has been extensively involved with the update of the county General Plan.

Aoki, a Hilo native, was the department's 2008 Employee of the Year.
