A weakened high pressure area north of the state will keep trade winds on the gentle side today, the National Weather Service said.

The high pressure area will regain strength tonight, with moderate trades returning over most islands by tomorrow, forecasters said. The moderate winds are expected to continue through the early part of the new week.

Return of the moderate trades will result in more typical trade wind weather, with showers focused over windward and mauka area.
