Diver in critical condition after rescue

Advertiser Staff

A scuba diver was in critical condition today after being pulled from the ocean off Nanakuli.

Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the call came in at 2:31 p.m. that bystanders had pulled the man from the water at Electric Beach across Farrington Highway from the Kahe Power Plant.

The bystanders were performing CPR when HFD and EMS crews arrived, Seelig said.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the man, who was in his 50s, had somehow become separated from other members in his scuba diving party, and was then pulled from the water by bystanders.

He was taken by ambulance to Hawai'i Medical Center West in critical condition, Cheplic said.

No other details about his identity or condition were released.
