Filipino exhibit, events to be at library in October

Tthe Hawaii State Library celebrates the photo exhibit "Singgalot: the Ties that Bind," 11 a.m. Oct. 4 with a free event at in its lobby.

Music will be performed by The Silangan Singers; the exhibit is sponsored by the Filipino-American Historical Society of Hawaii and the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. The photo exhibit, which focuses on the history and legacy of Filipino-Americans, continues through Oct. 25.

Originally unveiled in 2006 at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C, and locally at the Bishop Museum, it commemorates the 100th anniversary of Filipino immigration.

Other events to be held in the library's First Floor Reading Room:

• Oct. 11, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – "Growing up Filipino in Hawaii" panel discussion.

• Oct. 25, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Poetry readings by Filipino authors.
