Korean film 'Divine Weapon' to be HIFF opener

The U.S. premiere of "The Divine Weapon" will serve as the opening night film of the 2008 Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival.

Directed by Kim Yoo-Jin, it stars several top Korean actors, including Jung Jae-Young, Ahn Sung-Ki, Heo Joon-Ho, and Han Eun-Jung. It is set during the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasties as secret plans are underway to develop a super-weapon of insurmountable power to confront the Chinese army of the Ming Dynasty.

The $8 million movie re-creates Korea as it was over 550 years ago.

HIFF's 2008 program is being held at Regal Dole Cannery Stadium on Oct. 9-19.
