MLB: Blue Jays to partner with Las Vegas 51s

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS — The Toronto Blue Jays have signed a two-year agreement with the Las Vegas 51s, making the Pacific Coast League team its Triple-A affiliate.

The partnership between teams some 2,200 miles apart comes amid a recent shake-up in minor league affiliations. Last week, Los Angeles Dodgers dropped its affiliation with the 51s in favor of a two-year player development contract with the Albuquerque Isotopes.

Don Logan, president and general manager of the 51s, said the Dodgers were seeking a newer facility. The Dodgers were affiliated with the 51s for eight years.

Toronto was affiliated with the Syracuse Chiefs for 31 years, but the relationship suffered because of the franchise's losing history.

The Washington Nationals, which signed with Syracuse, were also considering Las Vegas and New Orleans for its new Triple-A home.
