HA'IKU
Water commission will hold meeting on streams

The state Commission on Water Resource Management will hear recommendations for instream flow standards for eight East Maui streams in a meeting at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Ha'iku Community Center, The Maui News reported yesterday.

The streams are: Honopou; Hanehoi and Puolua (Huelo); Pi'ina'au; Palauhulu; Waiokamilo; Kualani; Waikani; and East and West Wailuanui.

The commission is required to establish instream flow standards for all streams in Hawai'i, to provide adequate water flow for the habitat for native fish and wildlife as well as for recreation, scenic views and other beneficial stream uses.

Commission staff members will present their findings and recommendations at tomorrow's meeting.
