Man's body found floating near Hilo pier

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the body of a man found floating at Kuhio Wharf in Hilo.

The body was spotted floating on Tuesday by crew members of the Pride of America cruise ship docked at Pier 1,

Based upon the condition of the body, police believe it had been in the water for some time. The man was found wearing faded denim pants and a reddish mesh football jersey with the name Douglas printed on the back. He is described as possibly Caucasian and about 5 foot 9 with a medium build.

Big Island police Criminal Investigations Section have classified the death as an unattended death. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.
