Men's march against domestic violence set for Oct. 9 at State Capitol

Advertiser Staff

A Men's March Against Violence will be held at noon on Oct. 9 at the State Capitol.

Speakers from the state Legislature, ethnic communities and other men will be participating.

The march, along with a rally, will address issues such as:

  • Every 7.5 seconds a woman is beaten in America.

  • Three out of five girls will have been physically abused or sexually molested by the time they are 18 years old.

  • Hospital and police reports indicate that domestic violence causes more injuries to women in the United States than rape, muggings and car accidents combined.

  • The perpetrators of violence against our children, wives, aunts, mothers and grandmothers are not strangers or neighbors; they are other family members.

According to Honolulu Police Department statistics, 14,433 personal/family violence offenses were reported on O`ahu in 2001.
