Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will have a "fee-free" weekend tomorrow and Sunday.

The free entry to the refuge is in honor of National Public Lands Day, a celebration of the 655 million acres of forests, parks, refuges, and open spaces that U.S. residents collectively own, said a release from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Tomorrow, the refuge celebrates Nene Awareness Day, designated by the state as a way to educate the public about the Hawaiian goose, or nene, the state bird.

Free, ranger-guided hikes onto Crater Hill will be offered today and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 30 to Oct. 18. The hike is moderately strenuous and starts at 9 a.m.
