Two people escaped without serious injuries from a fire that destroyed their Wailua Houselots home this morning on Kaua'i.

The residents were treated for smoke inhalation at Wilcox Hospital, officials said. Cause of the fire at 396 Pua Road is under investigation and damage to the three-bedroom home was estimated at $400,000.

The American Red Cross is assisting the victims.

Fire companies from the Kapa'a and Lihu'e stations responded at 10:10 a.m. and reported the fire under control at 10:55 a.m.

Police closed sections of Kula, Pua and Halei'ilio roads due to live utility wires were touching the ground. Public Works personnel assisted with maneuvering debris using heavy equipment.
