Reno man rescued at Makaha dies

A Nevada man died today at the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center after being pulled from the ocean off Makaha Beach.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Franklin Hamilton, 63, of Reno. Hamilton was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m.

Police have classified the case as can unattended death pending autopsy findings tomorrow for cause and manner.

Franklin was snorkeling with a tour group off Makaha Beach Park, police said.

City Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said bystanders and lifeguards had pulled the man from the water and were performing CPR when paramedics arrived at the scene.
