GOING VEGAS
Luxury condo gets St. Regis brand

By Anthony Curtis

The brand for the 398-unit luxury-condominium high-rise under construction between the Venetian and Palazzo on the Las Vegas Strip will be the St. Regis Residences, scheduled to open in March 2010. The units will range in size from 1,700 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet (a duplex villa with private pool), and the famous St. Regis butler service will be in place — providing round-the-clock personal attention to every resident. The St. Regis joins a small group of condo projects that appear to be building through the bad economy, including the Westgate at Planet Hollywood and a stand-alone Wyndham rising just west of the freeway.

LION KING COMING: According to reports, there's a strong possibility that "The Lion King" will replace "Mamma Mia!" at Mandalay Bay when the latter calls it quits on Jan. 4. It's yet another attempt to bring more Broadway to Las Vegas, only "The Lion King" has the advantage of moving into the venue that's experienced the most success with Broadway to date.

BIGGEST BRUNCH: The Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas has brought back its Veuve Clicquot Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Medici Cafe & Terrace. It's served Sundays only, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for $65 without champagne and $95 with unlimited pours. This is the new most-expensive brunch in Las Vegas.

L.A. BURGER: A second Original Tommy's hamburger outlet has opened at 5808 Boulder Highway. The first Las Vegas location of the famed Los Angeles chain opened earlier this year at 3009 St. Rose Parkway.

REDUCED JUICE: The Planet Hollywood sports book has stepped up as the first this season to offer a -105 betting special (as opposed to the usual -110) on Monday Night Football games. The sports book still has the advantage on bets, but only by about half as much.

Q: The 40/40 Club is big. How could they possibly make it into a "sports bar"?

A: There are apparently elaborate plans to build a full-service sports book into the area, while maintaining many of the existing elements to turn the area into super sports complex. As of now, though, it really is just one humongous sports bar (with $7.50 beers).
