Advertiser Staff

A Wailua Houselots home was destroyed by a morning fire today and the home's two occupants were treated for smoke inhalation, authorities said.

The cause of the 10:10 a.m. fire at 396 Pua Rd. is under investigation. The fire was under control at 10:55 a.m. and fully extinguished at 2 p.m.

Fire officials estimate damage to the 1,000 square foot home to be about $400,000. A passenger vehicle and a small pickup truck also burned in the blaze.

The occupants were taken to Wilcox Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Thirteen firefighters from the Kapa'a and Lihue stations responded to the fire. Police blocked off portions of Kula, Pua and Halei'ilio roads where utility wires were touching the ground. County public works officials assisted with removing the fire depre and that helped put out the fire, officials said.
