Makapu'u lighthouse will be going to the dog lovers at 8 a.m. Saturday when the Humane Society's hiking club, Paws on Path, celebrates the reopening of the trail to canines.

There will be light refreshments and a gift to the first 50 attendees, who will gather near the lighthouse trail parking lot, under the newly erected sign reminding dog walkers to pick up after their pet and keep their dog leashed.

State parks policy is that dogs are allowed "officials decide to install signs to the contrary," said Vanessa Golding-Fox, Humane Society's community advocacy liaison.
