A 34-year-old man charged yesterday with attempted second-degree murder in connection with Friday's shooting of a man on Kaumuali'i Street in Kalihi made his initial appearance today at District Court.

Jeffrey Miguel Tolentino is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail. In addition to attempted murder, Tolentino was charged with two firearm offenses.

Tolentino, a felon, has a total of 11 convictions.

According to a police affidavit filed at court, Tolentino was identified by witnesses as the driver of a Nissan pickup truck who twice drove by a home at 1722 Kaumuali'i Street and allegedly asked a group standing in the driveway "if they had any problems with him" and challenged them to fight. Following the second pass, Tolentino stopped the truck, got out and allegedly fired three shots at the group from about 50 yards away.

A 27-year-old man suffered a wound to right shin.

The incident was reported to police at 11:56 p.m. Friday.

After identifying Tolentino as a suspect, police arrested him at 12:53 a.m. Saturday fronting 1691 Lima St.
