Man sentenced for '06 Waimanalo fatal accident

Advertiser Staff

A 25-year-old man was sentenced today for misdemeanor third-degree negligent homicide in connection with the May 2006 death of a 21-year-old woman motorcycle passenger.

Jonathan Kalili, who entered a no-contest plea in July, was granted a one year deferred sentence, fined $500 and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service by District Judge David W. Lo.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Wendy Hanakahi sought a sentence of 90 days in jail, one year driver's license suspension and one year probation.

On May 14, 2006, Kalili made a left turn on Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo and broadsided a motorcycle, killing its passenger Shery-Lyn Villalon.
