WAIPAHU
Volunteers wanted for annual cleanup day

Volunteers are being sought for the fifth Waipahu Make-a-Difference Day/Adopt a Stream Day cleanup Saturday.

An estimated 200 volunteers are participating in the cleanup, which takes place from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Leeward Community College, Waipahu High School, Kapakahi Stream, Waikele Stream, Kapakahi Stream, Waikele Stream and Pupuole Community Park.

The cleanup is sponsored by the city Department of Environmental Services Storm Water Quality Branch.

Volunteers should be at least 12 years old and wear covered shoes. The city will provide supplies, T-shirts, educational materials and refreshments.

The goals of the program are to create awareness of nonpoint source pollution, encourage partnerships between the public and government along with providing information to help motivate positive change to keep streams healthy.
