Isle surfers advance at World Junior meet

Hawai'i surfers remained undefeated in the Boys 16 and Girls 18 divisions of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship yesterday.
The second round of both divisions were completed in 4- to 6-foot waves at Salinas, Ecuador.
In the Boys 16 division, Keanu Asing, Matty Costa, Kaimana Jaquias and Ezekiel Lau advanced to the third round.
Jaquias was one of the top performers of the day, receiving a two-wave total score of 15.5 (out of 20). Costa had one of the best waves of the day, receiving a score of 8.83 (out of 10).
In the Girls 18 division, Leila Hurst, Malia Manuel, Nage Melamed and Alessa Quizon advanced to the third round. Hurst won her heat with a two-wave total score of 14.34.
In the Boys 18 division, Kaua'i's Dylan Goodale won his third-round heat. Fellow Hawai'i surfers Kyle Galtes, Tanner Hendrickson and Albee Layer won their respective repechage heats.

CHAMINADE SWEEPS
Anuhea Yamaguchi batted 4 for 5, including her first collegiate home run, and drove in five runs as Chaminade swept a Pacific West Conference doubleheader from Notre Dame de Namur, 6-1 and 6-2, yesterday at Belmont, Calif.
Kristine Mihara had four hits and four RBIs for the Silverswords (7-25, 6-12).
Yamaguchi's three-run homer in the seventh inning of the first game capped Chaminade's comeback from an early 2-0 deficit.
The Argos fell to 8-25-1 and 0-18.
