Former University of Hawaii players Ryan Mouton and Josh Leonard put up some jaw-dropping performances before NFL scouts today at the UH Pro Day at Carson, Calif.

Mouton had a broad jump of 11 feet — a foot longer than second-place finisher Erik Robinson while Leonard bench pressed 225 pounds 41 times.

At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in February, where the NFL invites the top pro prospects, the best bench performance was 39 repetitions at 225 and only three athletes had a broad jump of 11 feet or better.

Mouton later pulled his hamstring while running the 40-yard dash, slowing down in the last 10 yards. However, he managed to be timed in 4.42 seconds. Mouton said he felt the pain at 20 yards.

At the NFL Combine, only one defensive back had a time better than what Mouton ran today.

Each Division I football team is allowed a Pro Day, a combine that assesses the abilities of pro prospects from that school.

Players are measured for their height, weight, arm length, etc., and in disciplines such as 40-yard dash, vertical jump and 225-pound bench press.

Because of its distance from the Mainland, Hawaii is allowed to hold its Pro Day at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., allowing scouts to attend just a day after the USC Pro Day.

Scout, coaches and directors of player personnel from the 32 NFL teams gathered today for the UH event, which featured more than a dozen former UH players.

Players drawing the most interest were defensive end David Veikune and cornerback Mouton.

Veikune had private workouts with the Miami Dolphins last week and the Denver Broncos Tuesday.

Also in attendance today was UH head coach Greg McMackin.

Associate head coach Rich Miano served as the liaison between the school and NFL.
